Uness - Criminal Minded

Since starting out as a musician and songwriter at age 16, Uness has garnered accolades and attention from many of the industry’s leading executives, producers, and artists.

Recently assisted by super-producer Ryan Leslie’s NextSelection Lifestyle Group as a songwriter/producer/artist, Uness looks to take his artistry to the next level with a collection of quintessential Soul & Funk and Hip-Hop.

By founding Crime in the City with Montreal’s leading music production team, DaBridge, Uness objective is to offer a creative and challenging environment for young aspiring artist while spreading word of the movement at every corner of the cosmos.

Q. What did you see or better yet not see in the music scene that made you and DaBridge production team want to establish CIC?

A. Our philosophy in CIC is to make good music with good people. We are human beings first and foremost. Therefore we believe in connecting with people on an organic level in order for the formula to function. If we happen to be on the same wavelength, then it's on!

Q. CIC’s music often has elements of old soul but at the same time it’s progressive. To what do you attribute CIC’s ability to blend the two so seemlessly?

A. Each era has its specific characteristic which makes it unique. We are true geeks of the old school vibe but we also honor all the possibilities new technology is bringing to the table. We thought it was only right to apply the feeling from the past, only this time, using different tools. The result is CIC!

Q. While the current business model crumbles, CIC seems focused on establishing their own way of connecting with the consumer. Ryan Leslie effectively employed a global mind set along with a hands on/interactive approach to establish a wordlwide audience. Is that something CIC intentionaly chose to emulate?

A. We are definitely aware of the state of affairs in the music industry right now and are determined to innovate as much as can to connecting with our audience. The Internet and social media especially have become premium tools in music promotion and publishing as it gives the artist an equal chance of getting their craft heard.

On the other hand, this model gives more freedom of choice to the consumers depending on their musical taste, thus giving more emphasis on quality product.

Q. Is there something concrete you can give fans to look forward to this summer?

A. Most definitely! CIC's first Mixtape/Album, "Break a Record" will be out later this spring, featuring Montreal's finest elements in the hiphop/r&b scene. It will be available for FREE download of course on our official blog: www.cicmusic.wordpress.com

So look out for that! Also, the new addition to the team, Mtl based twin sisters "Tadeeo", will be comin' out with their debut EP in the spring as well! We will have more info for you on that soon.

Other than that, we are working on a brand new live presentation which will showcase our entire roster as well as the Crime in the City band. Should be an interesting summer for CIC!
