The Jay Z concert was good but not amazing, some may differ to agree but I expected much more from the living legend. Before I put myself in the hot seat I must admit that the line up was great, J-Cole who was recently signed to Roc Nation was the first opening act and listening to him a person can only agree that he has bars for days.
Wale the Washington native who is dropping his album November 10, 2009 felt right at home because the city of Washington took our baseball team a couple years back. His performance was legit, it was more then I expected, the audience may not have been familiarized with his songs before but I’m sure they are now.
Wale spent time in the crowd stirring up energy for the following act, which was NERD. They have been to Montreal about four time in the past two years, yet they always amaze me, they had the crowd going bonkers and of the walls. They had a hot artist from Canada aka The North Side, who has recently signed with Pharrell singing some hot hooks on stage. It was pretty funny when they addressed the security and told them back off and let the people on the floor enjoy themselves. They had girls come on stage and shake their tale feather a little, and then had a random dude jump on stage and spaz out, it was entertaining.
Now its time to critique the main event, don’t knock me when I say this, because I am a true Hip-hop and Jay Z fan to the fullest. What I mean by when I expected more is that I expected to hear some “Reasonable Doubt”, or tracks like Renegade ft Eminem, that real Hip-hop, the stuff that a true fan will know about. All though I enjoyed his commercial line up of all his video tracks and some hits, I wanted Jay Z to bring it back to that raw essence oh Hip-hop. I remember when Jay Z was here 10 years ago for the Hard Knock life tour that was crazy so in comparison to that concert this was not the greatest. I have to admit though Jay Z the living legend sure does know how to work a crowd and he is one of the best at what he does, he has the most number 1 selling albums in history thus kicking Elvis officially out the building.
