I remember when we (lady oracle and I) started doing the limelight radio show (7 years ago). Underground Hip-hop amongst us Canadians was to say the least, a bit of a joke. Please don't include those Artist that put Canada on the hip-hop map like Maestro, Dream Warriors, Mcj and Kool G, Main Source just to name a few. I'm talking about the underground hip-hop, artist that you wondered why they never really made it to the big stage, because they sounded that good. Let's fast-forward to today (7 years later). Canada now is pumping out hip-hop in droves and good hip-hop. Hip-hop we can be proud of. One such artist is (you guessed it) Ghettosocks.
I was introduced to Ghettosocks music from his 2008 album "Get Some Friends". I pretty much murdered that album playing the tracks "Count Sockula Esquire" and "Suck it Up" religiously. So I was more than psyched when the radio station (CJLO.com) received a copy of his 2010 album "Treat of the Day" This album is dope! Lyrically he comes off nice, smooth and he's not talking garbage (not that we Canadians can really talk about 24 inch rims, or living in the "hood"), but the album content is put together well and sounds real good. The production is impressive; the beats have a good crunch to them. There not wimpy and have a good head bobbing kick to them. A Few collaborations from Edgar Allen Floe to Cesar Comanche add a good touch to the album. The various song intros give a little spice before the songs kicks in, not over bearing but just enough to give the song a good kick start in your ears.
If you want an album that will cut the monotony of the hip-hop you're probably hearing on today's airwaves then pick up Ghettosocks Treat of the Day". I don't think you will be disappointed.
Favourite Songs: Dreams of Hawaiian Sophie, U Ain't This, Ricochet.
