Corona Theater
New Money Showcase
The Good...
I think I’m Big Magz… Bad News… Affiliated… Boy 6lue. With those words, Ceas Rock ignited the crowd and brought the Corona Theatre to life. I’ve heard a dozen remakes of Rick Ross’ B.M.F but only Ceas had the presence of mind to turn it into a Real City roll call. The Exception… Coming soon.
The Bad...
The event was dubbed the New Money showcase and that name implies certain affiliations that not everyone is comfortable with. I know, I know the t-shirts are so cool though. New Regime aside (I’m an XL, thanks), Montreal is a small town with an even smaller stage. Ideally, the different avenues (radio, internet, or live shows) that have the power to promote the city’s top prospects should operate without prejudice or the feeling of pledging allegiance to any flag. Ideally. But in the real world it’s the same thing from high school cafeterias to the House of Commons… Politics as usual. Hope you’re sitting with the cool kids.
The Burning Question...
That was amazing… But can we do it again? If West is Major is the regular season, is the New Money Showcase the Super Bowl? I can see this happening once, maybe twice a year. If we milk it, it loses its cachet like Drake’s singing. We were all glad to see everybody come out and support, hopefully it continues to grow from here.
Notes...
The Expos Fitted Megamix performance made the Source Awards look like the NAACPs… Can we get a do-over for General Q… IBlast holds the belt for nicest belt… Borden is Prodigy (before Takeover)… Speaking of Break Bread, it was like feeding pigeons when the 1’s started flying. Shout out to the bird gang. Brrrrrr!!!
