Recently, Escape mtl release Real Citys Finest Vol. 2. One review caused so much controversy that it prompted a response. Read the original review here (Real City Review) and the response below.
What up everybody? Morburn has recruited me to do some album reviews. To be honest I was having trouble coming up with my first album to review, because honestly not much has come out in 2010 so far.
I decided to take it back about a month or two to the Real Citys Finest Mixtape Vol2, because quite honestly I couldn't understand how a established and reputable paper like The Mirror would give it a 9/10 and somebody else would say it wasn't even worth listening to.
With bangers from Magnum 357, Bad News Brown, Hindu Kush, D-Shade & more. This was easily one of the best compilations of MTL hip hop to come out in 2009.
The album starts off with a intro from the Voice of The City Don Smooth and goes right into one of my favorite collabos of 2009 Magnum 357 ft I.Blast & Planet Asia. The Narcicyst comes through with two solid tracks including PHATWA (Arguably the best MTL video to drop in '09), Bad News Brown hits us up with a BANGER I had never heard before "Long Days Long Nights" & a remix to his last single "Born 2 Sin".
With MTL Vet & Leader D-Shade coming through solid on two tracks "Him Again" & "The Throwback" he definitely is setting up his upcoming release perfectly. Hindu Kush "Doughnuts On The Dash" one of my favorites from Dj Buddahblaze's Sea Of Green mixtape series sounds even better the second time around.
Mugz comes through with one of the funniest samples in awhile on "Iloveme" , Mr. Bits steps up with "Stoplight" (Produced by Underground Realroads Drex) and "Who We Are" and all I can say is definitely look out for Mr. Bits in 2010.
The biggest and most pleasant surprise hands down is 1/2 of Labnoise Full Course steppin up with "Story Of My Life". This song blew my mind.... realness, just honest hip hop coming from a honest dude. This is the FIRST time I've ever heard Full Course rap in my life and definitely hope its not the last.
With two of the featured artists on this mixtape opening up for the upcoming Sean Paul tour... I really wonder how this mixtape "makes Montreal look like a cesspool of depressed, criminal-minded, police-record filled aspiring rappers." LOL
With things picking up in the city, and the winds of change blowing, I'm definitely looking forward to Vol 3.
