Recently I had a chance to check out "West is Major" over at Bourbon Street West. The line up consisted of JCoones, Milli Millz, SRH, Krazy K, Group Therapy, I.Blast Finess, Boy6lue, Jerico, Low Key Ent, Trina Elle and C-Koo-Slim.
The MC's for the night Don Smooth (K103 Street Sounds) and MC Rain (Earthquake Sound crew) made sure the crowd was hype and the artists did not disappoint, I was especially impressed the vocals of Trina Elle and the stage presence of I.Blast.
Big shout out to all of the performers that came out and did their thing. It isn't too often you get a group of local hip hop artists together without to having an out-of-towner headlining the bill.
Witch brings me to my point, events like this need to be supported by the city. You have two choices; sit and complain about the lack of hip hop in the city or you can actually take part in building a movement of support for local acts.
I'm sure you've all heard of the term strength in numbers, well that's exactly what we need to show. That Montreal does have a thriving active local hip hop scene.
We have our destiny in our hands; just ask yourself one question..Will you be at the next West is Major event?
