Carl Henry personifies change and diversity. Born in Jamaica, raised in Montreal and having traveled and toured extensively, set the foundation for the R B sensation to become the versatile artist he is today. He continues to forge ahead with his signature hot smoldering "soul infused pop" reverberations that continually intoxicates and move the masses! Morburn Music got a chance to chat with him, here's what he had to say.
Q. First off welcome to Morburn, how you feeling man?
A. I gotta start off by saying congrats to Morburn-Music! love the site!! Thanks for having me. I'm feeling great!!!!
Q. When did you first realize that you had the ability to become a singer?
A. I guess it all started when I was a little kid singing in church and my grandmother was always cheering me on! I think that kinda planted the seed and gave me the courage I needed to stand in front of an audience and share my musical abilities.
Q. You were able to put your music up on a national stage, something that many urban acts from Quebec struggle to do. How were you able to accomplish that?
A. Well I think it was partly faith and a lot of hard hard work! I was fortunate to have met my manager Cecil Collins of Cesoul Music when I did! He heard and saw the potential in me, and seeing that he was someone who was already established in the music business I was extremely grateful!
I've learnt a lot because of him and in an industry that's sometimes very light on commitment, he's been pretty committed and consistent. It's definitely not a one man show when it comes to promoting my music but it takes a committed and hard working team that believes in what I do!.
Q. Do you feel there is a ceiling for English urban acts from Quebec?
A. I"ve always believed that the sky is the limit and you only go as far as you allow yourself! The music game is an international business and i believe there's an audience for everyone. you just gotta find em!
Q. You released a french version of your debut album "RnB". how important was it for you to release the french version "Solution RnB"?
A. Well initially it started as a writing exercise for me and the producers I was working with. But as we progressively wrote more and more in french it took on a life of its own. So by the end of the whole process I not only had a french version of "RnB" but also a whole bunch of original french songs too! So the timing was right and we figured why not put out both simultaneously! I think it was the first time a Quebec urban artist did that! can I say trendsetter? lol .
Q. What has the music industry taught you so far?
A. I mean apart from all the business side of things I"ve learnt with time, I think the music industry has re-enforced my work ethics! It's a lot of hard work. Long studio sessions, sometimes very draining. Life on the road can be exhausting if you don't pace yourself! So it all boils down to YOU GOTTA WANT IT and YOU GOTTA LOVE IT! if not you won"t stay in it for long!
Q. Can you give us a glimpse of what's in store for you in the future? Do you have any new projects in the works?
A. Well I've been working on the new album which will have some great features! Hope to have it out early next year! I know a lot of folks have been waiting patiently, that"s why I've been working hard to take it the next level! I hope to have the new single out before the end of the year!
Q. Morburn would like to thank Carl Henry for chatting with us a bit. Do you have any last words for the massive? ?
A. Well I gotta say a big thanks to the massive for their support! As an artist I'm indebted to my fans! They fuel my drive and make me wanna keep doing this music thing!!! Big up yourselves and One love!! and to Morburn thanks for having me!
