K-os, born Kevin Brereton, is a genuine neo-crossover rap n' roller who's music, much like your Ipod, might speak to hipster club kidz, pop chart gazers, Canadian indie rockers, dirty south electronic rap renegades, or reggae rude boys simultaneously.
Morburn recentlty got a chance to chat about the music scene and his latest project
"The Anchorman Mixtape".
Q. Welcome to Morburn, how you feeling?
A.I feel like a huge giant Purple monkey swinging through the forest on vines on my way to the red pond portal hole in 2012
Q. Let’s go back for a minute, it’s 2006 things are going well for you and then suddenly we don’t hear from you in a while. Can you describe what was going on during that time?
A. Who can explain why anything happens? It would seem like My life works backwards, like Benjamin Button's all i know is if whatever we think comes to be then that can be an interesting experience if you play your life game like the guys from Weird Science.
Q. What did you learn about the music industry from that experience?
A. There is no music industry only banks loaning money .... and tellers that like to dance.
Q. Often in hip hop music the message seems more geared to acquiring material things rather than acquiring knowledge. What is your take on the direction hip hop is taking right now?
A. GET MONEY- GET SEXXED but most of all GET GOD!
Q. It seems like the jump from being talented to getting signed and being recognized for your music is so great. How were you able to make that leap, to have the confidence to say, I can do this?
A. ha ha .. I never had the confidence.. just a girl i was trying to impress, who was never impressed by anything ! WOW.. See how far that can take you?
Q. What was the idea behind the release of “The Anchorman Mixtape”?
A. Ron Burgandy takes himself VERY seriously and so do many recording artists.. he was a great representation musing the hilarity of EGO MANIA!
Q. Right now we’re going to play a little word association, just tell us the first word that comes to mind.
A. Canada: ELLEN PAGE in a rap book Trinidad: My Uncle playing upright bass in a jazz band Hip hop: OBAMA! The Industry: S.E.M and how much i like her John Salley: Mentor Drake: A good soul k-os: mother nature's husband
