The Montreal Hip Hop Awards

Sunday, December 5th 2010
Montreal, Canada

Theatre Plaza

The 1st Annual Montreal Hip Hop Awards

The Good…

First and foremost the entire production was outstanding; Good venue, good host, great crowd. From start to finish the evening was a professional, stylish and classy affair. With last January’s All-Star Show already on his resume, the Montreal Hip Hop Awards further solidified Kamsly Gelin (aka DJ Kamistry) as a bankable event director and a name every industry head should keep in their contact list.

The Bad…

The flip flop. When the press release came just two weeks before the event, the hip hop community’s reaction was the same as when the Bieber/Raekwon collabo was first announced. Out the gate there was denial, confusion, then acceptance, followed by pessimism and defiance. Those feelings made it all the way to the Theatre Plaza’s front door and that’s where the trail ended. Dress code in full effect. No Hats, No Haters. The winners were announced, questions were answered and it all came together like the Heat in Cleveland. Shame on y’all for doubting. Ok, I fronted too but who could blame us? Hip Hop in this city has a history of shooting itself in the foot. Xzibit A

The Burning Question…

What will this do for the music scene in Montreal? Does it become more competitive? I know, you’re an ar-teest, you don’t do it for the accolades… Unless you’re nominated that is. No shame in that Montreal. As long as the show maintains its integrity I promise not to get my Kan-yeezy on. Now, Narcicyst, I’mma let you finish but Mona Lisa had one of the best videos of all time... OF ALL TIME!!

Notes…

Congrats to newcomer Boy 6lue on getting 2 awards… I’m so appalled. No nominations for CIC’s Ceas Rock, OneShot, Uness or other favorites like 4DZ, Lotus and Troy Dunnit, Shogun, David Hodges? F**kin ridiculous!... If Nick Fury is not involved next year I’m boycotting. Well, maybe not boycott those days are over, but I will tweet about it. Aggressively… Correct me if I’m wrong but the crowd was about 75-80% Francophone. Fact is we are stronger together and I don’t think it would‘ve been as successful without the unity. Shout out to K-RIM and Marco Volcy… Now does anybody know how to say Morburn in French?
