Maybe when you think of a female MC, you picture L'il Kim or Nicki Minaj who are both very good at what they do, but what sets Natasha Marie a part, is her soulful R&B voice that'll catch you off guard in her hook.
If Alicia Keys could also rap, THEN, maybe that would be a reasonable comparison. Or if EVE could belt out a jazzy note, then again that would paint a better picture. Seems to me, this is just the beginning of a new era of music.
In a world where people are easily bored with repetition, we are in need of a woman with confidant big ideas, creativity up her sleeves and multi-talented skills to pull it all off. When asked what else she'd love to do if given the chance she responded, "I've always been a very expressive and self- sufficient person, that'll never change.
I itch to write books, design clothes and accessories, paint and create new inventions all for the sake of sharing my brain with the world and wanting to contribute to the simple pleasures of life. I thrive off of being different and unpredictable. I will always have a say and play a large part in my productions; that's just me, I wouldn't have it any other way."
Q & A with Natasha Marie
Can you tell us how you first got involved in music?
Well, I recorded my first track. 'Bring It Back', for Hype Mann P's fashion show in August 2009, with a close friend of mine who also raps,(A.Young). He said he had a dude who he records with that could hook us up, (Mysticom). We ended up only performing it and not releasing it, but it definitely got me buzzing to work on my next one. After that, it was pretty much me talking about how serious I was to start recording my own stuff that got me hook ups to record at RBR Records,('Everyday') Red Rhino working with Underground RealRoad, ('Be Who UR' & 'Let It Go') and most recently with my cousin TriZzE, who produced 'Take It To The Bank.'
Being able to sing and rap is a rare gift; what style do you feel more comfortable performing?
I've always loved to sing. Rapping came a little later BUT, one thing I think any singer worries about is making sure we deliver every note how we hear it in our heads. Rapping- the most I worry about is remembering my lyrics, but I'd have to say I'm pretty comfortable with both. They're both an extremely large part of me and how I express myself.
What is the message behind your single "Take It To The Bank"?
Simply put, The message is: Don't tell the person you want or want BACK, (in this song's case), that you are worthy of them. SHOW them WHY instead. It's about paying your dues. If you messed up, it may mean that you have a lot of 'proving' to do the second time around. Because it's about trying to get someone back and proving that you're love is real, the song also says, I'm gonna show you how for real this is, you can take it to the bank AND CASH IT! :D
