Or so we thought… It began so promising. With a record amount of videos reaching the airwaves, huge support from local radio, blogs and websites at a level we had never seen before. There was no where to go but up.
Then there were the shows, it seemed like every week there was a big show coming to the city. For a brief time our city was the "IT" spot for hip hop, even getting a shout out of acknowledgement from Allhiphop.com. "Thank you Prime"
Bringing acts to Montreal was a great was great for the scene but the true test would be having an all local event. Could we get that same type of support for local acts? West Is Major, New Money Show, the Montreal Hip Hop Awards.
These three events stood out for me because of 3 simple facts.
1. They were able to bring people together
2. They showcased local talent
3. They showed us that the local scene is growing in a positive way.
(How ironic is it that this year, I have no idea if any of these shows will be returning….)
 a year later… What the Fuck!! I really try not to curse while writing but that phrase most accurately describes my feelings for the year thus far. Two young legends taken from us… Take a minute to think about it young Legends.
It really is a testament to what Paul Frappier and Matthew Garner were able to accomplish in such a short time on this earth. I still remember the first time I got wind of this new reality; the first "Call me… We Lost News!" the second "Give me a call We Lost Dutch!" Both were very eerily similar messages.
Although Dutch and I had similar interest, we rarely spoke. I still believe that we could have made a better effort to work together. But that seems to be this city's M.O. and it's also what's holding us back.
One of the first and only conversations I had with Dutch happened in late October. I asked him if we could start working together on a project for the city. He said that he was down and that we should meet. That meeting never took place, instead a text message with an instant explanation.
The scene took another huge blow…
Indeed, this was supposed to be our year but the true test of a champion is what happens after the knockdown.
